The Pitmen's cracket The cracket evolved down the pit and then progressed to the miner's cottage. Crackets were an essential bit of gear below ground, especially when pitmen hewed coal in narrow seams. They sat on them if the seam was high enough, rested their heads and/or shoulders on them when lying down to work, and could put them below their thighs when crouched working 'on their hunkers'

Your shots today in honor of the miners were awesome Count B. Something away from the norm. Much appreciated.
My dad used to wear a hat like that when he went coon hunting. There was a line that runs to a pouch that was filled with carbide. It had a smell all its own.
Thanks for your continued votes.

This is a pretty cool shot Rich. I like the color palette too, especially the blue reflected looking light on the boots and miners gear contrasting nicely with the rusty golden colors in the wall :) (I guess you spell it colour on your side of the pond :)
(edit: I didn't realize she mentioned that already)

This image is a tibute to the miners. I knew already that the work they did under the ground was heavy and inhuman. Both your image and narative have enhanced this knowledge.
Your post is a document, Richie!
