The Walt Disney Concert Hall is the newest addition to the Los Angeles County-owned Music Center (the others are the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, the Ahmanson Theatre and the Mark Taper Forum). The Disney Hall opened in October 2003 at the cost of 275 million dollars. Its unique design is the artwork Frank Gehry an internationally renowned architect, it represents a giant ship with its billowing sails. The outer "shell" is made of stainless steel. At first the steel finish was very shiny, but the occupants of neighboring buildings complained that the reflection from the steel panels increased the ambient temperature in their places by a few degrees. The LA County was forced to pay a contractor to sandblast the polished steel into the present dull grey finish. This photo was taken at near-midnight. There are no outside illumination in this building, lighting sources are from street lights, some passing cars, and a full moon. Exposure is 30 sec at F13.
