On Feb 22, 1540. Don Fransisco Vasquez De Coronado started into mid America looking for Cibola. The seven cities of gold. On June 29 1541 he and his men crossed the Arkasas river just south of Ft. Dodge. Naming it St. Peter and St. Paul because they crossed on that holy day. Father Juan De Padilla a Tranciscan Friar led in a mass of thanksgiving. This is the first know Christian service in this part of America. This 35 foot cross comemorates that day. I hope you all enjoy it.

The sky is so lovely, it seems to fit perfectly with the cross. I've heard that the Staked Plains of the Texas panhandle are so-called because they are so flat and featureless that the Spaniards had to put stakes in the ground in order to find their way back.

I think you had some help getting that glow on the cross. It is a good reminder. Good post BTK.

Very interesting Billy to learn more of the history in your part of the world. It's great to me that you've illustrated your story with such a fine image. Thanks!

Beautiful sky showing off this almost silhouetted cross. Fabulous composition and colours Billy. Looks like you cloned somethig out at the lower right of the base of the cross, the small circles. Just wondering.

Fine shot Billy. Love the sky colorations in the background. Really sets the shot out nicely.
