When I was looking at this scene I thought of the cattle drives. It occured to me this would be almost the perfect spot to bed them down for the night. Good grass, a natural fence and water not to far away.

In some places out west you can still to this day see the trail made by all the covered wagons back then. It would be so much fun following them on horse back.

This is really a beautiful capture Billy with wonderful colours and scenery.

This is the best of the series so far Billy. Never thought a prairie could be so very beautiful. You have done well with this presentation my friend.

You have found the magic basin BTK. The colors are stunning. I can see Gus, Capt. Call, Newt, Jake Spoon, Pea Eye and Deets riding along that trail and indeed camping in the basin. Wonderful and faved.

It's like some foreign place or planet... no trees just the land under the sun. Terrific post, Billy. I like visiting places that are so different from where I grew up.

p.s. What part of Kansas was this taken?

Another great song (sung by the late Marty Robbins) played through my head while watching this wonderful image, Billy:

Take me out of this prison
Back to the clear blue sky
Take me back to the part where this cowboy's heart
Want's to live till I die

Take me back to the prairie
Away from these cold prison bars
By a campfire's gleam let me lie there and dream
Under a blanket of stars

Where each mountain top wears a halo
Of fleecy white clouds overhead
Where symphonys ring from birds on the wing
And the grass is like a soft feather bed

Take me back to the prairie
Bach to the land I love best
So that when I am gone I'll be where I belong
There in my haven of rest

Great post again my Friend!
Regards, Cornelius.

What beautiful colours you were able to capture for this photo.
I was raised in South Dakota, so the Plains is what I know. And now living in ORegon, there are for sure wagon tracks here since this is where Lewis and Clark came. You photo reminded me of the many times I'd go with my Dad into the plains. He worked for the Corps of Engineers and would go check out the land, and the dams etc. Many times he'd come across Rattle snakes, I was NOT with him those time..lol..and he'd have to kill one, then would remove the rattles and save them.! He was from Enid, Ok.! Where exactly did you take this
photo? Verena
