It was another stormy day in Oklahoma. I have been trying to get a lightning shot for years and made that my mission today. I hate to say that I loged about 200 miles on my truck and failed. But I did get some good cloud shots and I hope you enjoy them.

I like this one very much BTK. When you have a massive tree and a barn with threatening clouds, then you have a beauty.
I can almost feel the approaching rain. I like the mood of this a lot.

The sky looks grey, and intimidating, which makes for a moody atmosphere, nice work Billy.

Well shot Billy. I sure do miss the years I was on the family farm. This shot stirs those memories quite nicely.

I have never gotten a lightening shot either, Billy. I figure if I set up the tripod to get one, a tornado would come by right about then and blow me away. Your shot here is a dandy with that mean looking sky, and the gorgeous color tones. Excellent work!

Outstanding! Beautiful image, and I'm with you on the lightning shots. I'm usually caught in the storm without a camera and the few times that I was prepared (meaning hugging an aluminum tripod in the midst of a lightning storm) I failed in capturing anything. Always too late . Good work!

Billy - I really like the saturated colors beneath that ominous looking cloud. Really nice - even without the lightening! ;-) Well done! Thad

I've never had much luck with lightning shots either, Billy. However, California rarely gets any "weather". This part of the state rarely gets rain and almost never gets snow. We get some distant thunder maybe once a year. More often than not, the thunder turns out to be canon fire from Camp Roberts to the north. I would think that Oklahoma would be an ideal location for a nice shot of a tornado. The best way to get a good lightning shot is to ask a friend (not a good or close friend) to climb to the highest point in the area as a storm approaches. Have him bring a long metal pole with him and ask him to balance the pole on his head. As an incentive, promise him a Tootsie Roll for every hour he can keep the pole balanced on his head. Get about a mile away and focus well above the pole. BANG!! Within minutes you'll have a great shot of the lightning. On your way home you can snack on the Tootsie Rolls you promised your friend because he won't be eating any Tootsie Rolls ever again.

I love what you've done with the post photo work. The shot's a beauty and makes me miss the Midwest, but just a little.
