The color of these berries caught my eye last September. I would like to tone down the overexposed sunlit leaves without sacrificing the color of the berries. Any suggestions?

Sorry I can't help you Rho. Not very good at Post Work.
Perhaps someone else with experience could come along and give you a Helping Hand with this.

I think it is a Very Good Post as Is...Thanks for sharing.

Nice photo Rho. These berries are "American Beauty Berries". I hope that helps some. Terry

Beautiful little berries, don't know what they are, but very vivid. I like the sunlight coming through the green leaves. Very nice image.

Amazing color on those little berries... I love the shot, regardless of the sunlit leaves. Well done!

Hey Rho,

Have a couple of suggestions for you to try in editing/post processing on the note of taming the highlights.

1) "Faking the HDR thing..."

With respect to the above tutorial, the Shadow/Highlight adjustment step does work to a degree.

Here is the result of my mucking about with your photo and using the above technique:

"Unidentified Purple" - Shadow/Highlight Adjusted

Or..

2) Check out Tony Kuyper Photography - Tutorials.

Namely; "Luminosity Masks" and "Luminosity Painting".

3) Simple approach, that is, if you have Photoshop:

Ctrl + Alt + ~ ... will load a selection of your image/photo that is automatically Feathered AND contains the areas of your image (generally) 50% brighter. (Could stand to be corrected on the actual percentage value.)

Once the selection is loaded ... without doing anything else ... bring up a Curves Adjustment layer and start shaping the Curves line. The upper right is the area related to 'bright' ... and by lowering, decreasing points along the line ... this will translate to diminished 'brightness' in the bright spots.

Experiment.

And.. google is indeed your friend if I am being clear as mud here (happens).

Colours are vibrant, good good composition. (I did crop some.. which, and in turn ... did provide an assist in cropping out some of the brighter sections/areas.)
