The simplicity of the main street Placa, called Stradun reflects the harmony of the ancient City of Dubrovnik as its biggest value and beauty. Placa is 298 metres long and the Statute-law from 1272 set the final regulation plan of the City and its main street. Homogenous Baroque architecture of the houses on each side of Placa with shops placed in the ground floor and their interesting «knee-like» entrances got its present day form in the rebuilding of the City after the disastrous earthquake in 1667. Many luxurious Gothic and Renaissance pallaces were destroyed then. The architectural design of Placa is very effective and it also expresses a sense for business of Dubrovnik Republic in those unfavourable times. Today Placa is still the best-known shopping centre and a favourite place of all events in the City life.

Yes, this is a very different world. It reminds me of some of the renaissance villages in Italy, but being on the coast, it even feels different from that. It is a beautiful city. Is it often foggy at the coast there?

What an interesting street scene this is. The street "paving" stones themselves and their careful placement are worth a double take. The roofs of the buildings on the right just plain compliment the whole view, and how high up you were!!!! I see you weren't the only one that thought this was photo worthy as I spotted at least two other people down on the street with camera equipment. I also am impressed with the colorful clothing that the people are wearing. It's just a wonderful scene and I'm very happy that you sent along the information as it just makes it all come alive in my mind. Thanks, Chris. Excellent job :)

Chris, being a lazy big sleeper as I am I would have been ready to get up at 4.00 [in fact it would be easier not to go to sleep at all LOL] to take this pic with the empty street !!!!
Very nice perspective and composition !
Many thanks, dear friend, and congratulations !!!

A truly excellent composition and an encouraging contrast to the destruction in your previous shot. Those red tile roofs are irresistible!

well, this is great fun to look into this old street below. maybe you could have cloned out the yellow car, since it seems a little misplaced in this old scene. but if you like your pictures natural, then it is certanly great Chris.

I love to see great buildings that are built to enhance their surroundings. This building really does that here. I love how you took this picture and gave it an awsome frame. Great eye and thanks for sharing!

Makes me realize how little I've seen. I'm so uncultured. This is a lovely picture though. The angle the little people. Yep it's good. (I've never liked frames but I'm getting over them)

Oh my goodness Chris...as I am going thru your gallery, THIS photo just amazes me!!! You are super good at the vantage point from where you take most of your photos...and this one is just wonderful. Showing the rooftops, then the stoneway street and the people..well you sure put it together perfectly! And what a most lovely place to walk thru..wish I could be there..Verena
