A tiny plant blooming right after the last freeze. Growing in a very harsh place, a lot of rocks, leaves, debris and traffic. In the image of man, not giving up and surviving at any cost.

Hi Bryan,

This is a very nice picture, especially when considering your story, I think that is our quest, the quest of everything that lives anywhere on earth and beyond; "Not giving up and surviving at any cost", because if it wasn't, why do we live, get up in the morning to do something useful, something for ourselves or for the others surrounding us (this is not only a human thing, animals and plants work together too if you just look close enough).

One could ask why we want to survive. Probably it is because of love and the great feeling of happiness. I suspect this is too personal, if you take into account the various situations people live in. People who live in miserable circumstances e.g. war, etc might not even have a clue to this, or maybe they are just hoping and thinking that things cannot get any worse,
Other people like Us Photographers might want to survive because of the beautiful things "Mother Nature" will present us the other day,
I do believe we must survive no mater what, if just for not making other people unhappy.

Thank you for your inspiring picture and story, I am always amazed by the need of nature to survive, and the courage that comes with it,
Just look at what pain people and animals can go through, it is sad an sometimes horrible to see but it makes us think about the subject more and more, and that actually might be a good and relieving thing to do,
I like the colors and blur effect,
Great job,

Thanks for sharing your amazing pictures

This is a wonderful picture of a wonderful plant. It is a gorgeous red and looks so delicate for being so strong. Certainly a lesson to us all. A little shelter and we can all bloom. Thank you Bryan for showing us this little wonder.
PS I wonder - is it a cyclamen? I can just see leaves of one behind, though all I have are pink ones.

This reminds me that nature is always working at keeping life and healing. This is quite a striking capture Bryan - almost looks like a painting to me. Has poetry too as does most of your work. :)

Lovely red on the ...ummm...carnation..yeah, that's it *chuckles* Your blurb goes very well with this and after reading all the comments, it touched a lot of people so I don't feel in the minority here saying that because of your presentation I also went through a very similar experience as did those before me. Thanks for making me think...yet again, although I can see that your wife needs to get you a flower identification book for your birthday ;)
