Taken in The Columbia River Gorge Scenic Bi-way. This little creek has over the years cut through the hard basalt rock on its way to the river. If you like ferns this is the place for you! Tried to get up closer for a better view of the inside of the gorge but there is a log jam with very green slick wood. If you fell between and into the ten foot deep water your in a lot of trouble! So you have to enjoy it from here I'm afraid. Hope you like!

Good thinking, Paul. You don't want to risk getting your camera messed up. LOL. Nice lighting and colors in this shot. That tree with the moss all over it is very interesting looking.

Paul - The moss covered gnarly branches, the moss and vine covered rocks are pretty in daylight; I imagine quite eerie at dusk. Most gorges that I'm familiar with were cut through softer rock, often limestone. It is unusual that this was cut through basalt; I wonder if there was a vein of softer rock, or a fissure the gave the stream room to do its erosive work. I like this photo. Thad

The stream is almost hidden Paul. It is hard to believe it is 10 feet deep. I like the angle and it is amazing water can do that over the years. Good post.

Close enough for me too, Paul, and an interesting composition. I especially like the gnarly branches on the left all covered in moss (they look wicked), and how the lighting leads one's eyes through the gorge to the back of the image!

Oh Paul..this is just awesome. I've been to so many of these little spots in the Cascase Mountains..and I can totally remember the wonderful fresh woodsy scent and the way the water sounded. It's been a while since I've been able to go, but one never forgets those fantastic spots. The mosses, the ferns, the peace..so wonderful. I'm so glad you went there and took such a most lovely photo. You must do a lot of road trippin' eh? Very nice. Wish I could do it again too. Thanx so much for the wonderful feeling here. I love how the bit of sunlight is shining in between the huge boulders. Very very nicely done. Verena
