Also known as NGC 1427A. Note amidst all the stars the spiral galaxy in the background. Over 20,000 light-years long, this is a doomed galaxy due to violent episodes of relatively nearby star formations. NASA image from the Hubble Telescope. PhotoShop work to create the desktop -- hope you enjoy!

Thanks for all the work you did to bring this image up to wallpaper standards Tracy. These images make for the coolest dektops at night with all the lights off.....another farewell to the Hubble! :))

Nice image. You guys shouldn't give up on Hubble just yet though, if everything goes well, it'll keep functioning till 2010.
