He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: it's springs were at every doorstep and every path was it's tributary. "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no telling where you might be swept off to."

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

O! Wanderers in the shadowed land
despair not! For though dark they stand,
all woods there be must end at last,
and see the open sun go past:
the setting sun, the rising sun,
the day's end, or the day begun.
For east or west all woods must fail...

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

The Lord of the Rings ~~ J. R. R. Tolkien

Loved the series of books and the meanings hidden deeper in them. Just like this fine shot of yours. Very well done John.

You have a good way of breaking the code of the author Shads and going straight to what he/she is saying. This is another example. What a wonderful path. Some will follow it because it is the easy thing to do. Others will climb the fence and explore. What each one does, is the best thing for them.

Love the lighting and shade along the pathway. Such an inviting place to spend the day. Especially enjoy the line..." All those that wander are not lost". : )

Nice light and shadow play John, if the next contest is chiaroscuro this could do well.

The light, the shadows, the color, the fence and path. It's all so very beautiful. That happens to be my son's favorite author and when we were in England, we passed by the Eagle and Child pub (Oxford) where Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Charles Williams sometimes got together.

I love the almost black tree trunks against the orange colours of the leaves in this, and also the line of the fence. I also like the shadows falling across the pathway. Well done!
