We mourn the blossoms of May because they are to whither; but we know that May is one day to have its revenge upon November, by the revolution of that solemn circle which never stops---which teaches us in our height of hope, ever to be sober, and in our depth of desolation, never to despair.
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

Like the brief doomed flare of exploding suns that registers dimly on blind men's eyes, the beginning of the horror passed almost unnoticed; in the shriek of what followed, in fact, was forgotten and perhaps not connected to the horror at all.
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

Yet I think the demon's target is not the possessed; it is us . . . the observers . . . every person in this house. And I think---I think the point is to make us despair; to reject our own humanity, Damien: to see ourselves as ultimately bestial; as ultimately vile and putrescent; without dignity; ugly; unworthy.
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

But I'll tell you something, Father; you give me Regan's identical twin: same face, same voice, same smell, same everything down to the way she dots her i's, and still I'd know in a second that it wasn't really her! I'd know it! I'd know it in my gut and I'm telling you I know that thing upstairs is not my daughter! I know it! I know!
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

He talks to me, Regan, I think he will leave you. Do you want him to leave you? "Yes." "Let him speak."
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

Be gone! In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

The power of Christ compels you!
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

Take me. Come into me. God-damn you. Take me. Take me.
William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist

I just woke up from a nap and looked at this. It scared the "crap" out of me. Guess this photo is an Exorcist in its own right Strat.
Just when I thought I had recovered, I listened to the theme music. Talk about your projectiles.
All that aside, this is magnificent. It's like the Ninja Turtles have joined the Unholy Trinity.
A great entry into the SATURDAY NIGHT OF THE MOVIES. 👍 👍

Oh, wow! You know, John, like yourself, I've always had an appetite for the 'scary' movie but The Exorcist was one that really did bother me at the time...I had even read the book before seeing the movie and even the book disturbed me but being a bear for punishment I went to see the movie anyways...an excellent rendition of that psychological thriller and super entry to our movie collection...faved.

John, the 'critters' in your fantastic (meant both literally and figuratively, 😁) render have a demonic / evil appearance, so your title is very well chosen. Well chosen are the quotes and the music link for the Exorcist Theme Song as well.
If this is a contribution for the SATURDAY (or SUNDAY) NIGHT AT THE MOVIES theme, it's a very apt one (your narrative says nothing about that). If not, it would be a very apt one.

The stuff that nightmares are made of - the bold bright colours hide what lies beneath. Its after midnight here so I now will have to pstpone my bedtime a bit further !
I remember the film - this is a great submission for the theme :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I second Sandi's comment - I'm both repelled and drawn to it like a moth to the flame - great choice.

The Exorcist succeeded as both a novel and as a movie because Blatty was a believer, and his conviction elevated the story into legend. Widely considered one of the greatest movies ever made, it hits like a fist to the gut, and once seen, can never be unseen.
