Achilles, Brittanica

And Thetis answered, bursting into tears,
“O my son, my sorrow, why did I ever bear you?
All I bore was doom…
Would to god you could linger by your ships
without a grief in the world, without a torment!
Doomed to a short life, you have so little time.
And not only short, now, but filled with heartbreak too,
more than all other men alive ‐ doomed twice over.
Ah to a cruel fate I bore you in our halls! ”
Homer, The Iliad

Rage ‐ Goddess, sing the rage of Peleus' son Achilles, murderous, doomed, that cost the Achaeans countless losses, hurling down to the House of Death so many sturdy souls, great fighters' souls, but made their bodies carrion, feasts for the dogs and birds, and the will of Zeus was moving toward its end. Begin, Muse, when the two first broke and clashed, Agamemnon lord of men and brilliant Achilles.
Homer, The Iliad

A man's life breath cannot come back again‐
no raiders in force, no trading brings it back,
once it slips through a man's clenched teeth.
Homer, The Iliad

Hero Theme, MK2

Troy, James Horner

The Odyssey ‐ Movement I (The Iliad), Robert W. Smith

Maybe Homers Iliad would be made more attractive with illustrations such as this work of art scattered through it. It's a long read ! Exceptional work once more.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

John, the advantage of your posts with beautiful renders and well-chosen music links is not only that your renders are visually very attractive and the music of your music links are pleasant to the ear, but the quotes and the links for obtaining further information are very entertaining and educational. In some cases it has brought me new knowledge and in certain subjects it has refreshed my faded knowledge. I am grateful to you for that.
