Wonderful job. I'm not personally that keen on the grain of the background here, but that's just me. The chess pieces are beautiful. I especially like the lighter ones as they really show the grain of the wood to its best advantage. I like the way your chessboard has a rim, too. It may seem to be floating somewhere, but there's some protection for the poor chess pieces!

The background is good and the chessboard is good too. But somehow the two don’t quite work together for me. Perhaps the background needs to be a wee bit darker to improve the contrast between it and the chessboard. Or is that we have shadows on the background but none from the chessmen? Anyway, I like it a lot but I think that there potential for an even better image too.
