Traveling in Sierra Leone on a missionary trip, with camera in hand, these young girls passed by the window of a medical clinic where I was helping and sharing the love of Christ. Motioning to the girls to come closer, I asked if I could take their photo. The older subject (with a sandwich in her hand), acted so shy, but smiled as I got my camera ready. Though the quality of the photo is somewhat lacking, the endearing moment of this shot is imprinted on my heart. Viewing this photo causes me to pray for the wonderful people of Sierre Leone.

Great capture! I know exactly what you are saying about the moment you have captured here. Over 20 years ago, I lived for 5 years in Haiti, working with a mission there, and I have many such moments imprinted on my heart ... sadly, not one photo that could be shared on here. All too small, and scanned from slides. This one certainly brings back memories, and stands as a reminder to all of us that we should not take for granted the blessings we have! Thanks for sharing this image with us.
Hopefully you have more from that time that you can share?

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares

You're right, it's a beautiful portrait shot. If you have access to Photoshop you might try carefully dodging their faces just a little to bring them out. Of course it could also be said that the shadows in their faces helps to accentuate their shyness. Either way, you caught the emotion nicely.

It is so humbling to see pictures like this. It has reminded my how grateful I am to be well off, and that I have sufficient worldly goods to make sure my own daugther will have a prosperous life. The simple beauty of your photo is embracing and charming. Indeed it is good photo for the likes of National Geographic.

It's better to have a living dog, than a dead lion.
