This is Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. A beautiful day in September. The photo is more of the foreground than the lighthouse. Hard to know what category to place it.
I am very fond of the calming colors in this photograph.
However, I think the focus of the photograph gets lost with the plants and the lighthouse. The plants are a focal point due to the use of line and rules of thirds. The light house is a focal point due to the use of space and rules of thirds.
Be careful on your treatment of subjects, the main subject subject can sometimes get lost in the placement of others.
This photo I could hang in my house. Nice colors and interesting subjects. I think that the plants get lost a bit in the background. Perhaps use an angle to sil them against the sky. The lighthouse could be more in focus. It does not seem to be the main theme as is. Lovely shot...
Thank you all for your thoughtful comments. My feeling was that the plants were the focal point with the lighthouse as the backround. I'm just beginning and I don't know much about composition. The rule of thirds.....third in? third up? third down?
For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, His eternal power and Godhead;... Rom 1:20
Had another look at this with a more critical eye and I believe I agree with .goodguy. I don't know how I can make both the plant and the lighthouse be in focus but I DO think that silouetting the plant against the sky would really work...hmmm....how do I get low enough to do that...I was lying on my stomach to take the photo as is!! Lots to think about!
