This picture shows an old street in Middelburg, the Netherlands. This street is called the 'Spanjaardstraat'. I suppose that that name was given in order to let the people of Middelburg remember the '80 years during war'. Holland (or The Netherlands) was in this war (1568 - 1648) ocuppied by Spain. Spanish people are called 'Spanjaarden' in Dutch. At the background you can see the Koorkerk. At one of my postings of last year you can see that church more detailed. People of Middelburg gave that church the, less respectful, nickname 'Thick Bertha'.
