Hope the ice is at least 15cm thick overall! There have been a few accidents in Germany - mostly children on thin ice. A beautiful winter scene well captured, Cornelius.

I really like this a lot Cornelius! It´s such a happy image because of the people having fun on the ice. It brings back happy memories from my childhood and also from the time my daughters where shildren. I love the boat with the plants.

What a fantastic image, Cornelius! I loved this in the VB and had to see whose it was, though I had a suspicion it might be yours and I was happy to tell you that I really love this alot. It has such nice qualities image wise and the scene is wonderful to look upon. I think it deserves a much higher index.

I love this and the thing that really grabbed me about it, even from the thumbnail size, was that it reminded me of the light in some of the landscapes of the Dutch Masters of the Golden Age in the 17th century and their Flemish contemporaries. I went and checked to make sure and if you google for Dutch Masters or Flemish painters and look around the 17th century you are sure to see some landscapes that are amazingly evocative of this photo. You are standing in a wonderful tradition of image making Cornelius. Definitely one that should find it's way into the permanent gallery.

I got many questions about the boat in this image.
Let me try to give you a proper answer.
The boat is an old one and no longer in use for commercial purposes. The inhabitants of the nearby village thought that it would be nice to use it for decorating purposes and placed a kind of large discs on it filled with soil and flowers. Other places in the vicinity are doing the same. In my gallery you can find some examples. As we were surprised in Holland by so many frost this year, the flowers are gone now, but I know for sure that next spring the discs are refilled with new flowers, for instance tulips. It will be a wonderful and colourful sight enjoyed by many people.
