This series shows a part of 'Rammekenshoek', a nature reserve in the south-west part of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands. The nature reserve is called after the fort in it with the name 'Rammekens'. This fort was built in 1547 and reconstructed in 1812 in order of the French emperor Napoleon. At this image you can see a part of this fort (almost ruin now). You can see as well that it's just behind a sea-dike. On the other side of the sea-dike the Western Scheldt river is flowing. As the sea-level has risen a lot, the sea-dike is much higher now than in the time the fort was built.
