The Belgian Pilot Vessels 'Raan' and 'Honte' off the coast of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands during a summer storm.
This image was taken on August 20th, 2016 in 'pretty' (please notice the quotes) rough weather conditions. I had some serious worries that my camera was penetrated by salty seawater spray. Finally when I got home, it was maintained very well (not by giving it a sweet water shower, lol)
If you'll view this image at full screen size you can see on the flag stick on the bow of the 'Raan' a mascot. It can be that the crew of this pilot vessel was somewhat superstitious and think that it would protect them from danger. But to me good seamanship is the only guarantee for that.
