As you already know, I love the subject matter. Someone needs to go to every one of these places and photograph them before they all rot away into nothing and/or are sold off to build big sprawling neighborhoods. They are a very important piece of a somewhat ignored history due to their use.
The composition here invites the eye to continue around the corner to view whatever might be...
Thanks for the image, it is truly a peice of history captured forever. Next time you go there it may be completely different in some way, good or bad.
You captured mood of this building exselently....
I always wandered way places coonected with mental illnes have some specific mood..is mood is real or we created this moode in our heads based on stereotypes?...
This extraordinary photo does express the endless and angry monotony of the mentally ill. When haymoose, above, writes that such places should be photocgraphed " before they all rot away into nothing and/or are sold off to build big sprawling neighborhoods," I like to imagine that one day mental illness will be eradicated and all the facilities are gone. In any event, you are a gifted photographer who has told a large story with this image. Thank you for sharing it.
This reminds me of that song Hotel California 'you may come inside but you may never leave'. Very haunting. A good one for ancient architecture. Very clear and the lighting is just right.
