One of the many faces of my first grandchild, Layla, who is now already six months old.

I was using a free trial software called Portrait Professional. Before I would purchase such a program I would read reviews on it first. I went to Amazon and found that the reviews were mixed and some felt you could achieve the same results with other software, so I tried to see if I could.

Working with skin tones and achieving natural looking results isn't so easy, but I did the best I could with Photoshop and the free OnOne plugin that we got at a PS seminar and was able to get this far. I still have things to learn.

Of course, a portrait is only as good as its subject. ;0)

Oh no you don't, Cindy. It's as good as the person behind the lens.
And you did just fine here,... and I'm talking about cropping, expression etc.
For me, the flesh tones could be a bit warmer. It's possible that bounce light from the background has added some slightly darker tone. You are really close though.

Wonderful portait of your sweet granddaughter Layla, Cindy. Can clearly see that it's taken by a proud grandmother, lol.

Please cherish these precious moments that you can share with her. Before you realize, she's in puberty, and will go with you in discussion about many things. It's s also nice however when you can agree with her or in other cases can convince her in a good way that an 'old' grandparent can be right as well.

A déjà vu to me.

Regards, Cornelius.

I see that Layla is a big hit COG. Those blue eyes would stop a Canon in its tracks.
I don't do well with flesh tones either and have yet to find a software that does. This is close like Doug said.

She's a little doll Cindy and what big deep blue eyes! I think you did well - I don't know how close you were but I've always had better luck shooting from farther away and zooming in.

I tend to agree with Doug since he taught me most of what I know about photography. I don't agree with you that the subject is paramount. The fact is that you have a way of mastering anything in photography that comes your way. I still think your shots of Boston were some of the best I've ever seen on Caedes. I think the key to what I like about this shot are her eyes. First of all they take up half the shot. Secondly they're perfectly focused. Finally the highlight adds a vast amount of depth. If this was one of those old time portraits like when we were kids, the photographer would have added some red to the cheeks. My only complaint is that you chopped off the top of her head. That had to hurt.

I enjoyed this picture of your granddaughter. The expression is priceless, along with the fingers in the mouth. The only downside to grandparenthood is that you depend on your children to become one. Being Gramma or Grampa is priceless.

'Portrait Professional' is good, but you have to be 'canny' with it!..It can be over-intrusive and blot out facial highlights!

The wee bairn doesn't need professional touches...Granny knows best what to do!...She looks delightful and such a darlin'

I think the portrait is only as good as the photographer. With such an adorable subject as Layla combined with your talents the result is beautiful. Those chubby wet fingers make this so real and those appealing eyes would melt an icebeg.
