Picture of the Westin Hotel in New York city. I made everything black and white except the funky looking part of the hotel.

A striking way to show off this building . The strange shape, and well chosen colors, make it seem like it was taken from a cartoon, and I mean that in a good way :) Great job Stephanie!

First, I ... er, well to be redundant ... 'like' your image here. ;o)

Caught my eye in and amongst the new images, so ... def mission accomplished. Very much so.

Now then ...

Some thoughts, if you don't mind ...

Lighting is a little flat, some adjustments to contrast would easily remedy and kick your image here up some. My humble opinion, of course.

And I hope you don't mind, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words and I suspect you don't want to read a thousand words from me ... I downloaded and played around with your image and ... here is the result of that playtime.

(By all means, if it bothers you in the slightest to have your image up on my imageshack account ... let me know and down it comes. It is a semi-private account, however ... no worries, your word is final and no questions asked.)

Reader's Digest version of stuff done in CS2 Photoshop:

Cleaned up the noise in the sky. More noticeable at the higher resolution sizes.

Some .... some, additional sharpening. (Bit of a pedestrian job done, as I am noticing myself now some fringing or telltale signs of sharpening at the edges of the building on the right.)

Employed the roots or crux of this tutorial by Phil; aka philcUK "Faking the HDR thing ...". Adds some additional dimensionality and can address the contrast issue as well.

Vignetting added to help balance out the competing elements, more so at the bottom of your photo.

And lastly ... to anchor your viewer's eyes some, placed two coloured windows off to the left of the Westin on it's backdrop counterpart. The leading lines guide, my eyes anyways ... to that of the sky. A tad.

/\ Why?

'Cause you stirred my own creativity, which is one of the highest compliments I can pay you for presenting us with this scene. :o)

First impressions were ... ahhh, nice. And still are. A few tweaks and this goes from good to gooder. Er, something like that. :oP

Just kidding a bit. Well done from me.

Great shot. I love doing that with architecture because it really does draw a ton of attention to other areas. I think you selected a nice amount of the subject to keep in color- good balance on that. A bit more contrast wouldn't hurt.
