The Middle Tower was built by Henry III and expanded by his son Edward I (Longshanks), but the face of the tower has been entirely refaced since then. Where the stone bridge is currently there used to be a wooden drawbridge over the moat connecting the Middle Tower and the Byward Tower. The Middle Tower gets its name from being “The Middle Tower” ☺ The original first gate that someone would use to enter the Tower of London was the Lion Tower (finally demolished in 1853) , which used to house the Tower’s Menagerie, AKA Zoo. The Middle Tower was built during the same time frame as the Byward Tower 1238 – 1272.

It looks like past and present have been welded together Jelly. I prefer the past part of the photo. Texture in the tower looks really good.

This looks like a castle with an area for a tennis court. Pretty cool. LOL. Nice, Jelly.

Well, now I can place the structures in London, since I see the new Mayor's office building in the background, that round, multi-storied structure on the far right. European history is so much longer than ours that it's commonplace to find antiquity, like the Tower of London, a stone's throw from ultra modern architecture. Is this low area under the fenced walk the original moat in this photo, Jelly? Good series, btw.
