This is one of the medals from my space memorabilia collection. The is the Soviet Union coat of arms from the reverse of the Salyut-7 project medal.

Launched on a Proton rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the USSR, it was the tenth space station of any kind launched.

The Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.

Baikonur still serves as the launch site for Russian and some ESA projects.

Enjoy.

Find it for several reasons hard to give a proper comment on this image Don. Prefer to say only that this image is technically perfect.

Greetings comrade Leuty
Lets not forget Spudnik the first satellite into space in October 1957. The American's couldn't beat em even with the help of nazi rocket scientist Wernher von Braun the man who built the VI, & VII's with bought bloodshed to war torn Britian.
Doncha just love, & hate history. :o)

This is very different from your usual captures, but none the less colourful. (Are those lemons not growing quick enough???) I didnt know these sort of things existed, so thank you for bringing them to our attention and a little of their history!

I have never seen one, so thanks for putting it on. It probably will not be my desktop but I enjoy it. I too put photos on that will probably never be a desktop but sometimes we can see things that educate, make us smile, or think. Thanks again for putting it on. The Russians did a lot for space exploration that they don't get credit.

It looks like the pentagon, Don. USSR is gone, but the medal will probably become an antique.
