While working in the garden, I noticed a small gray patch on the rosemary bush. Closer inspection revealed a female White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth (Hyles Lineata). The caterpillar of this moth is the giant hornworm. Having located my tomato plants as a food supply for her young, she was probably hanging out in my rosemary to attract a mate.

Apparently unnerved by my intrusion, she soon flew away.

This is a good capture of this interesting moth. It looks like it has an eye looking at you just under its left antenna!!
