Swamp Hibiscus, Scarlet Rose Mallow, Texas Star, Scarlet Hibiscus -- Take you pick. All common names for Hibiscus coccineus.

This plant likes acidic soil and is hardy to -10F (-23C). The US Marshal living around the corner saw this plant and nearly went berserk. It bears a strong resemblance to marijuana hemp.

He went bezerk because he was smoking it himself and got a little paranoid! lol I think your wife has a passion for red like I do! Such a pretty flower that I have never seen. Could do a little cannabis companion planting and no one would notice. Great capture of the color red too!
