There are fewer things that prettier than a drover and his quarter horse working the herd. The sculpture in Pioneer Plaza captures the power and grace of this man-animal team.

Pioneer Plaza is an interesting plaza to visit. It covers 4.2 acres of downtown Dallas and is within walking distance of the convention center. At the top of the hill is an old cemetery containing many of old Dallas's founding forefathers. The highlight of this place are the bronzed longhorn steers gracing a trail down a small hillside as if on a cattle drive along with three life-like bronzed cowboys on horseback. It is the largest bronze sculpture of its type in the world. Take heed: if it's hot like yesterday, do not touch the cattle or you might burn yourself.

Wow! This is a superb shot of this statue indeed. I like the whole composition of this photo, particularly the softness of those trees against that soft blue sky. Well done! Fav'd and thanks for sharing!

Kickin' sculpture!! Not the best time of day perhaps to shoot it, kinda loses some in the details due to the lighting. Ride on sir!!

Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

A great capture of the Sculpture. He kind of looks more like a pony express rider than a cowboy driving cattle.
Well done.

Wachting this post does me realize that I was too early in my comment of yesterday in asking for the cowboys. Thanks Don for fulfilling my request that quickly, lol.
Wonderful post my friend and thanks for a very informative narrative.

I have had the opportunity to witness just such a work in a real drive on a big ranch here. It is awesome to watch.

That's funny about touching the cattle in the heat, but a good warning. I like this cowboy statue and the information about the park is really neat.
