The moon rotates at the same rate as it orbits the earth, so we always see the same side. Due to a phenomenon called libation, the moon rocks north and south, giving us a glimpse of the other side of the moon. For the next couple of days we can see almost 5 degrees of the southern pole that is normally hidden from view.

Clear skies and keep looking up.

Amazing. I'm keeping this to compare to the real thing so I can distinguish the 5 degree part. Why does the moon look like a large beach ball with the dimple on the end and the lines going from south pole to north? (or east to west)
