5 balloons go up each year just before dawn. They give continuous burns and what they call twinkle burns, where the pilots give the burners short bursts of propane. These 5 pilots were from the California area. 3 men and 2 women. FAA rules have the pilots hang a blinking light 15 feet below the basket. It's a grand site when the balloons get airbourne and the five blinking lights turn into lit-up envelopes of color in the pre-dawn sky.All balloons are followed by their chase crews who are in radio contact with the pilot.
