Beautiful, really stunningly great. I'm not sure what birds of paradise look like (though I suspect not _quite_ like this). This looks quite formalised/symbolic in form. I'm thinking the bird god... or a symbolic representation of same... or a temple to him. Definitely wooden and painted.

Wonderful colours and design. Spectacular.

It's an Aztec bird god. Definitely. All feathery and brightly coloured. And graceful.
