The fellow with the rambunctious horse is no youngster. This Montreal monument commemorates Canadians who fought in the Boer War, South Africa, 1899-1902. The building in the background is The Sunlife Building, the construction of which started in 1913 - finished in 1931. It took a while but, hey, it's a peach of a building. Photo given a very slight 'oil-painting' look to add what I thought might be a touch of class.
As for your photo, typically I'm not a big fan of photos of statues or statues of photos. I do like the looks of this posting because of the massive Sunlife Building in the background. The tallest building we have in the county is three stories. I have two minor complaints/concerns with the photo. I would like to have seen the entire building because I tend to like architectural photography more than monument photography. However, I'll bet that if you got the whole building in the shot, you'd have to be a half mile further back and then we couldn't see the statue at all; so just forget about that.
Secondly, the statue is awfully dark and indistinct. My suggestion is that you need to move the sun so that it's behind you. Because of the sun's mass, it might be easier to move the earth. It's your choice.
I really like the perspective of your shot and the color of the Sunlife Building. A well focused and reprodisymetric shot.
