I always see these birds of prey flying around but they never came close enough for a good photo. But while I was at the World Bird Sanctuary this one seemed to pose for me as it landed on the tree limb near where other birds were in cages, ugly bird, but check out those wings. More to come from the WBS.

Where I see them dining, I hope not to see one up too close. I didn't realize they migrated for a long time, but they get in a flock, or whatever you call a bunch of them, have one last meal and fly south. You did good on this one. Clear and I like the way he appears to be showing off for you. He's even looking back to see if you taking photo. Very nice.

As Tick said, they do fly south and we have quite a gathering in downtown Tampa each winter. Great image of this not-so-pretty bird.

I think You caught the best side of this one, there one big bird with a mighty wingspan. Hell I bet few want to get up close to them in the desert !! lol

It's beautiful in its own right Gregg showing us a very impressive wingspan that can't be denied. Very nice capture.

We have some of these birds on Long Island. I have not seen one but my son has out on the east end of the Island. He was amazed at the size of these vultures. Great shot Gregg, catching the wings open as you did gives some idea how large these are.

They are still hanging around here.. and that you got this shot is great...I so hope to be able to catch them in the wild...soon the will fly south, then north again and be the first harbingers of spring when they return....makes me sad :( PJ

Yes, I see these a lot. They love road kill. Nice shot though, Gregg.

you'd be amazed. even though they are ugly, they are one of the smartist birds of prey out there, even though they stick their heads in road kill...very nice shot. I love it when they tan themselves with their huge wings.
