That's a good shot...very majestic looking bird. That's amazing how close you got with just a 50mm. That would have been sweet if you had the telephoto like you said...but still...wonderful capture.
Wonderful. I got a shot of one of these the other day, but it's not as good as yours. I might post it anyway...I haven't decided yet. Nice clarity and I love the water in the background.
God's magnificent creation is full of beauty waiting to be captured - when you think you've seen it all, something you've never seen comes up and amazes you.

Wonderful shot, Ellie! Amazing how close he/she let you come... around here I haven't been able to get within even telephoto range of one of these majestic birds.

~ Impressive shot! He was probably waiting for a person to feed him, lol. They can get very friendly if so. Never saw one at the beach though...wonderful capture!
:)
Elly, what may look as a friendly bird to you, looks like a terribly injured bird to me. I have seen thousands of herons in my life, but there is a color of red on it's wings that don't belong there. Are you sure the bird was OK?
Anyway, it IS a very nice photo!

Stunning capture! The Heron is a beauty! Wonderful clarity and colours. I especially like the colour of the sky and the waves in the background, which make the bird really stand out. Very well done! :)
