Boab trees, also known as bottle trees, occur only in the Kimberly region of North Western Australia.Every boab tree is unique. They have character and personality as you would expect of such an ancient creature. Some individual boab trees are 1500 years old and older, which makes them the oldest living beings in Australia, and puts them amongst the oldest in the world. Aboriginals used the giants as shelter, food and medicine. For the white settlers they served as easily recognisable land marks and meeting points, and not to forget as impromptu prison cells when hollowed out.

Whoa, that is one really strange looking tree. Is that the type of tree that the Tree of Life at Disney World is modeled after? Just found out the one at Disney World is a baobab tree, is this the same kind?

Wonderful colours and clarity in this capture Frank, sure is wide open spaces at this location.

The baobab tree occurs in Africa and is related to the Australian boab tree.

If I were there, I am sure that tree would attack me. It just doesn't look friendly at all. It reminds me of an ogre or something. Great shot of it, in that beautiful golden field. Nice sky, too.

A magnificent composition, Frank! I believe all trees have character and personality, but I think the Boab is the winner in this category! I especially enjoy the immense trunk and wicked looking branches and limbs, all set against beautiful clear skies! I found your narrative most informative and delightful as well :) Faved.

Fascinating tree and history. Absolutely unique to these eyes. Stands out even more so, alone in the field. Thank you for sharing it, and the information. I LOVE trees!
