There are more than 700 species of Eucalyptus, mostly native to Australia.Flowers have numerous fluffy stamens which may be white, cream, yellow, pink or red. In bud, the stamens are enclosed in a cap which is composed of the fused sepals or petals or both. Thus flowers have no petals, but instead decorate themselves with the many showy stamens.

Oh they are so very beautiful! I love all the stamens, but wow, they would be difficult to do a painting of. So this photo is just wonderful!! I love how they look while closed, and it must be awesome to see them open up! Kind of like fireworks! And you got a bee in the deal too. Nice stuff!! --Verena

I didn't realize there were so many varieties of Eucalyptus. This is one colorful showy display. One to the left almost looks like a peace symbol. : ) I like Verena's thought of a painted version. Very nicely composed with both closed and open blooms.

A really beautiful riot of colour, Frank. Excellent detail on the pistils and the little bee adds an extra charm of his own.
