With more than 120 wineries, the Hunter Valley produces some terrific wines including a crisp semillon and ripe shiraz. It is located around 100 miles north of Sydney. The most important economic activity in the valley is coal mining, mainly for export. There is increasing tension between the coal mining industry and some other industries because of the environmental impacts of coal mining including dust, water usage, water contamination, and destruction of agricultural land, and the impact of coal trucks on local and regional roads.

Think both wineries and coal mining are from economic point of view very important for the valley. I prefer however the wineries.
In former days wines from France had the monopoly. Nowadays wines from Austrialia, California, South-Africa, Peru, and so on can compete with the French wines. An Australian 'Châteauneuf-du-Pape' isn't that bad, lol.

Very fine image, Frank. Cheers!

Regards, Cornelius.

I like the view through the tree's of the vinyards and the landscape beyond. I dont know much about wine, but appreciate the hard work which must go into making them. I also work around a coal mining area, and know of some of the problems which are left of this industry even after the last spade of coal has been shovelled. Many streets in the town are effected by subsidence caused by movement in disused mine shafts. Quite worrying for the people who live there. I expect this might be the same all around the world.
Lovely image and a possible contender to go in the contest?

My cousin who lives near Brisbane is always touting me onto Austalian wines - his recommendations have always been good! Lovely tranquil scene Frank.
