The south pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as with the north pylons, are purely decorative and do not support any of the bridge.

They look like they might support part of the roadway leading up to the famous center span...but as you said, they clearly have nothing to do whatsoever with the span itself...Nice detail here...Faved...
