This hotel in the mining town of Broken Hill was constructed in 1889 at a cost of 12,190 pounds. The Temperance Movement commissioned the building. They had a vision of a venue for fine dining and coffee, setting it apart from the licensed hotels that were abundant in Broken Hill. Ironically, the building was unprofitable as a coffee palace and became a licensed hotel in 1892.

That's a handsome place. It reminds a little of New Orleans. Nice shot, Frank.

I suspect some alcohol found its way within the confines of this beautiful building.
Good shot Frank.

The 'Temperance Movement' was an unknown phenomenon to me Frank, so I've searched for information and have found THIS.
I understand now your narrative and Tick's comment.

Very nice shot my friend!

Excellent shot Frank - most temperance movements did not succeed!
