....this is part of the tower of St John The Baptist Church in Chester standing in ruins after collapsing in 1881, the church having stood on this spot since 689! Placed high in the wall of the ruin has been placed a medieval solid oak coffin found during repairs in 1813. Inside are painted the words "Dust to Dust" :~0

Dust to dust, the don't mean the door on your last photo, its stil standing there.

There are several speculations as to who it was Patty! If you look at this link ( http://www.bwpics.co.uk/stjohn2.html ), half way down the page, you can read about it - possibilities are that it was a murdered monk or even a wicked old parishioner! lol It was discovered when the church was undergoing restoration.

Ok..I dont think I want to go visit this at night. LOL Pretty spooky! This place is amazing Patti to have stood so long & still be this much left of it! Wonder what a modern day building would look like after almost 1400 years!!?? Hmmm..I think dust to dust! lol Nicely captured Patti! Really enjoy the history! ~Dan

My father was a brick mason.....so I am always totally fascinated by textures, architecture and brick and stone-work. Beautiful!
