...this picture was taken late this afternoon when I was in Derbyshire and had walked to the top of Mam Tor (Mother Hill) - the cloud formations were amazing today and I was admiring the view then turned to see people silhouetted against the sky - it was an image I had to capture - I hope you enjoy it!

Really interesting picture! I love the concept/idea. The cloud formations are really cool. They almost look like they are painted onto the sky. And I really like the silhoutted people, makes for a nice picture. Great post! -Sarah

Very nice fogz, what is that little stack thing on the left, the cloud almost looks like smoke coming out of it. Very nice.

Hi Scorpie :) The stack is called Trig Point and marks the summit of the hill. An iron age fort once stood on top of the hill. You can read some of the history about it here . :)

I guess I must like this post!! I've been sitting here staring at it for a full five minutes ...lol.. and reading the information you left for Scorpie to read. It's worth it, and I love to find things like a link like that to take me to a deeper understanding of what the pic stands for and some history of it. Yes, this is a most interesting study in silhouettes. I was especially intrigued with the clothing, in particular the hat the tallest individual is wearing...the person in the middle of the pic..is that a straw hat ? And I see one off to the right as well. It must have been a windy day, as I can see the clouds look like they're moving right along and the people's hair and loose clothing looks like it's blowing off to the right. It's amazing how much you can see "in the dark" in this form. One person taking a pic..one looks like they're hugging themselves, and a couple look like they're hugging each other by the closeness of their bodies. I thoroughly enjoyed this take of yours.. thanks for posting it :)PJ

Hey PJ, the young girl in the middle has her arms tucked behind her neck, so what looks like a hat is arms and the one to the right is holding a young child so what you are actually seeing is two heads - an adult and a baby. :) The tallest person in the middle, which I think is the one you are referring to is a man with his collar pulled up around his neck. very confusing when you can only see the silhouette :)

This is so good that if I didn't know better, I would have to say that you posed them this way. An excellent capture young lady, and thanks for the explanation above. One of your best, if I may so say.

Dynamite silhouette capture Patti. Wonderful composition and clarity and the silhouettes against that blue sky are awesome. Excellent post.

Tell the truth Patti, these are all cardboard cutouts of people you placed up there right?? LOL This is really neat Patricia! I've never seen anybody do that before..what a great idea!! Such a stark contrast between your beautiful sky & the black outlines! Congrats are in order on this one! ~Dan C):-)

What a great photo this is Patti. You've done a wonderful job with this .I can make out what just about everyone is doing by their silhouette. I see there's someone who's been bitten by the "camera bug" just like us among them LOL. Nice capture and thanks for sharing.

Now this is cool. I think anything silhouetted looks great and has a powerful affect in photography, and those clouds are the perfect backdrop. Great shot.
