There is light at the end of the tunnel! At least thats what I kept telling myself through exams... done the last one today, yay! Apo 3D, Gimp 2.4, Photofiltre. Sorry if its a bit dark, but it just didn't turn out right when I tried brighter with this flame.

It's not a bad flame at all, a pretty nice looking spiral actually. Though I think you're right about it not turning out right when you tried to brighten it up. I downloaded it & tried to work with it too.
Part of the reason I believe is your palette itself, when you try & work with it that blue just seems too dominant...& not in a good way. Almost ... "glowy" .... for lack of a better term.
Another is the "noise" in your flame which you can usually help reduce by playing with the levels in any post processing program you have, like PhotoFiltre.
We all had to deal with the exact same things at one stage or another hon.... believe you me. Been there, done that.
You just keep right on playing with Apo & we'll keep right on looking ! Have fun !

Neat shape for a spiral! And just remember you never stop learning!..lol..I started in July of this year and I'm still learning myself. Sooo many things to do with apop!

Nice composition and also colours. Never tried that sort of thing myself but I lked what I saw.
