This bird was originally known as the Rock Dove, & shouldn't be confused with the Feral Pigeon which gets such a bad press. These birds are clearly identified by their white collars, & make such a sweet cooing sound when calling, you can be hear them on the link above. :o)

Did you think all Pigeons are common ? well click here to see a photograph of a rare un, it's so rare it hasn't been officially spotted since 1900 seems certain North Americans shot this one to extinction. :o(

Anyway Phlossy the mad professor's signing off now folks..................

Great photo and I didn't realize there were so many kinds of pigeons. This sure is a nice fat one and you have captured its good side. Good work my friend.

A stunning capture Phil. It's so clear. Are you sure this isn't a painted wooden decoy? Fantastic!!

I went to the site and listened to their cry. It's so throaty and unlike anything I've heard here.

Good 'un .... job well done, and the guilt trip about the carriers was superb..j/k

My grandfather rescued a pigeon once that had a broken wing. He nursed it and in return, the pigeon stayed with him and followed him everywhere. My grandfather called the pigeon, Baby. It was not the bird seen here, but the more common pigeon that are seen everywhere. The bird in this image has such pretty colors and your image is so clear.

This is brilliant. I really like this shot where you have made full use of the sunshine to best advantage. When I opened this up to full size image, it looked like the pigeon was coming out of my screen. Fav'd and thanks for sharing!

It's a sad fact, but man is hard on his animal neighbors. I have a hope that someday we will recognize the fact that we are only stewards of the earth and not its undisputed masters.

You have captured the beauty of this species. A hearty, "Well done."
