The Nene is the native name for the Hawaiian Goose, I spoke to a member of staff at WWT Slimbridge about them it seems there are now approximately 15 thousand wild in Hawaii.
The Nene wander the paths of Slimbridge in groups looking for grain fed to them by WWT staff. They are very approachable then, & will pose for you, however off the the paths they are shy, & make for a more difficult photograph.

This is a lovely capture of this bird. I cant help think that its neck looks like it has been twisted!!! Very clear image. Well done!

Up till your first image of the Nene I'd never heard of them. The day after seeing your picture there was a question on a quiz on TV about which family of birds does the Nene belong to.I, of course , now knew the answer and could astound Mrs B with my depth of knowledge. Love this and your other Nene pictures.

Really interested about the way the feathers are on the neck. Just from the water I suppose? Good photos give one the opportunity to see these details. Nice one Phil.
