Imagine a walled defence with a water filled moat surrounding it, inside is a Royalist Brigade, now imagine the English Civil War.

Oliver Cromwell troops successfully invaded this Royalist stronghold once, but were compelled back again to invade it a second time ! That's when Cromwell ordered the castles destruction.

Those stone walls are mighty thick I would have liked to seen the demolition take place. (o: You can find more information here.

As you say Phil walls like these would have taken a huge amount of effort to build and as much effort to demolish! A good photograph with great lines and the textures of the stones. (thanks for the link as well)

I don't suppose you were around to take a picture of the original castle. LOL. Really nice work on this. I like the textures in the stones, and the lighting.

A great shot of the old place, Phil. Those building blocks look like they've lost their original form. The arched windows really make this look more like a castle. Interesting history too. Thanks for the link. Guess this place has stood idle for centuries. Remarkable.
