Here's another picture I took while in Antarctica... The bird is commonly called an Antarctic Shag, or blue Eyed Cormorant. The framing of this photo was much my accident. I was in a small boat (zodiac), and had him framed nicely, but just as I was taking the shot, a wave came along and messed it up. I was actually pleased with the result though, as I think this makes a nice background with plenty of room for "icon clutter"

That formless grey-blue background is really dramatic, and it promotes the subject very well. I rather wish the subject were a bit higher in the frame, but I can't entirely say why.

You did luck out. It's an interesting shot but would be better balanced with a tighter crop. The background overpowers the subject material. You can retain the format shape but still crop the top and left side.

i really like the background and the bird. the rocks are a bit blurry. the positioning is very good.
