I'm really not well versed in making a suitable canvas for a vertical shot so this is about the best I can do. Quite simplistic. I annually attend a month-long silent meditation retreat and this building is on the grounds of the retreat center. It is a cobb building, which means the walls are made of straw and then covered over with a mud-like substance, which is then painted. The builders also put plants on the roof to catch the rain water and some rock to diversify the texture. I was walking out of the woods just as a single ray of sunshine found its way through the trees and onto the building.

Pretty building. I like the different colored stones in it. It is interesting how the one ray of light shines right on the roof.

I like the picture. Very nice. You seem to have the same problem as me with vertical shots. I just take it to either photofiltre or photoimpression and do something light and creativey to a black background.
