Took this while in Frankfurt, Germany, earlier this summer. If you go here, you can see what this looked like right after WW II, with these buildings being the bombed out buildings in the immediate foreground. The citizens of Frankfurt recreated them exactly as they were prior to the war.

Ted, I checked-out your link and saw the terrible devastation caused by WW II. However, I would add that in some places it was even worse, for example: in my country the city of Rotterdam was completely destroyed.
Whether it was Germans or my compatriots, that does not matter. In any case, it is praiseworthy that they picked up the thread again and courageously realized the reconstruction.
Your beautiful photo shows that perfectly.
