I am a Plant Biology major, and I can't help but see the irony in this photo. The sun provided life giving light to early photosynthetic cyanobacteria. These single celled organisms greatly transformed the world from an inhospitable ball of rock to one with an oxygen atmosphere, vital for the evolution of higher life forms (especially heterotrophs, like us!). And in front of the life giving sun are 4 dead trees, angiosperms, the most advanced land plants on the planet....the botanical culmination of 3.5 billion years of life on the planet. Wow, I'm a nerd. Hope you like the shot despite my corny story!

Nice shot you have created. Gives a very bold feeling of standing the test of time. Such that even after the life has ended, it leaves a lasting impression. Also like the story that creates a lot of questions in itself. The older I get the less I feel that I originated from this rock, even though I do believe in evolution.Good job:-)

Very strong composition. There are still life giving qualities to come, if only from the decomposing. And the sunrise signifying a new birth. Great image!

We make a living by what we get; but we make a life by what we give.

Ugh... I hated Bio... sorry. Now you've brought up horrible late nights of cramming that info in my cranium! :-D

I'm a Mass Comm. Major and am going for a B.S. degree, so I had to take a consecutive year of Earth Science and one semester of Bio 101. I honestly have to say that Biology is one of the hardest sciences in college...

Awesome photo

I hold it true that thoughts are things; They're endowed with bodies, breath and wings: And that we send them forth to fill the world with good results, or ill. That which we call our secret thought speeds forth to earth's remotest spot, leaving it's blessings or it's woes like tracks behind it as it goes. We build our future, thought by thought for good or for ill, yet know it not. Yet so the universe was wrought . Thought is another name for fate. Choose then thy destiny and wait, for Love brings Love and Hate brings Hate. - Henry Van Dyke.

GREG: the word is "convergence". When your knowlege of the world's richness, interdependence and complex beauty gained through science converges with your visual sense of its lush forms, patterns and colors, there, indeed, lies happiness.

Thank you for sharing your gifts!

Love, Dad
