I really like this. By blurring the background you've taken the date out. Without seeing the clothing on the dock people he could be any soldier in any time. The fabric texture and shading are wonderful.

The B/W gives it an emotional feel to it, almost sorrow of a man leaving for war. But we all hope that he is coming home. Fantastic shot.
